Followed a two days training on Data engineering with Azure Databricks at Wortell. This training gave a very good overview on the end-to-end capabilities of Databricks. Next to the theory and practical examples there was a lot of opportunity to experiment and to solve the assignments. A few good days well spend to get good insights in Azure Databricks.

Today I successfully completed the SAS Visual Analytics training. I got a very good overview of the possibilities of this application. It consists of three parts: Data Preparation, Data Explorer and Report designer.
In the SAS Data Preparation you prepare the data from various sources. You can compare it very much with Microsoft Access. After preparing the data, SAS Data Explorer is a very nice tool to analyze the data from all sides with a large number of possible visualizations, hierarchies, filtering and even forecasting. With SAS Report Designer you can create a variety of visualizations, filtering, but also interactions and links between different reports. My final conclusion is that the application offers many options for analyzing and visualizing data. However, that power does not come at the expense of ease of use. All functionalities such as filtering and creating hierarchies are all user-friendly. I look forward to doing more with this application.

Vandaag heb ik de SAS Visual Analytics training succesvol afgerond. Ik heb een heel goed overzicht gekregen van de mogelijkheden van deze applicatie. Ze bestaat uit drie gedeeltes: Data Preparation, Data Explorer en Report designer.
In de SAS Data Preparation bereid je de data voor uit diverse bronnen. Je kan het erg vergelijken met Microsoft Access. Na het voorbereiden van de data is SAS Data Explorer een zeer fijne tool om de data van alle kanten te analyseren met een flink aantal mogelijke visualisaties, hiërarchieën, filtering en zelfs forecasting. Met SAS Report Designer kan je een keur aan visualisaties, filtering maar ook interacties en links tussen verschillende rapporten aanbrengen. Mijn eind conclusie is dat de applicatie zeer veel mogelijkheden biedt om data te analyseren en visualiseren. Die kracht gaat echter niet ten koste van het gebruiksgemak. Alle functionaliteiten als filtering, maken hiërarchieën zijn allemaal gebruiksvriendelijk bereikbaar. Ik kijk er naar uit meer met deze applicatie te doen.

It has now been a week since the last session of the 5 Thursdays was completed. Too bad because the training was inspiring on many levels. What I particularly brought with me are data warehouse solutions, data profiling and virtualization concepts. In addition to these concepts, various tools have been reviewed. In addition to Oracle, Hadoop and Azure, also consider the Data quality analyzer from Atacamo to gain an overview and insight into Data quality.
The power of virtualization was demonstrated with Denodo Express. The latter is certainly not cheap, but in short it makes it possible to display sources of various kinds to the end user as relatively simple tables that can be read very quickly regardless of place and time. In addition, the workshop with TimeXtender (TX DWA Server) to generate a Data warehouse using ETL scripts based on various sources was also very educational.
For me, the training is a starting point for further self-study. The necessary literature has been ordered and is now on its way. And in the near future I will also delve further into the available tools.

Het is nu een week geleden dat de laatste sessie van de 5 donderdagen afgerond is. Jammer want de training was op veel vlakken inspirerend. Wat ik met name heb meegenomen zijn data warehouse oplossingen, data profiling en virtualisatie concepten. Naast deze concepten hebben diverse tools de revue gepasseerd. Denk naast Oracle, Hadoop en Azure ook aan Data quality analyzer van Atacamo om overzicht en inzicht te krijgen in Data quality.
De kracht van virtualisatie werd getoond met Denodo Express. Deze laatste is bepaald niet goedkoop maar maakt het plat gezegd mogelijk om bronnen van diverse aard voor de eindgebruiker te tonen als relatief simpele tabellen die zeer snel uitgelezen kunnen worden ongeacht plaats en tijd. Daarnaast was de workshop met TimeXtender (TX DWA Server) om een Data warehouse te genereren middels ETL scripts op basis van diverse bronnen ook erg leerzaam.
De training is voor mij een startpunt voor verdere zelfstudie. De nodige literatuur is besteld en inmiddels onderweg. En de komende tijd ga ik me ook verder verdiepen in de beschikbare tools.

Started the 5-day Data Intelligence training today. Data Intelligence is the continuation of the Business Intelligence training that I followed last year.
More focus on data. What is data, how do you organize it and how can you use the data for (predictive) analyses. Analytics only makes sense if you have sufficient data at your disposal, some for making hypotheses and some for testing these hypotheses. My experience is that access to data can form a bottleneck. Linking, unlocking, cleaning and enriching data is 70 to 80% of the work. I hope to gain new insights after this training.

Vandaag gestart met de 5 daagse opleiding Data Intelligence. Data Intelligence vormt het vervolg op de Business Intelligence opleiding die ik vorig jaar heb gevolgd.
Meer focus op data. Wat is data, hoe organiseer je het en hoe kan je de data inzetten voor (predictive) analyses. Analytics heeft alleen zin als je voldoende data tot je beschikking hebt, een deel voor maken hypotheses en andere set om deze hypotheses te toetsen. Mijn ervaring is dat ontsluiting van data, hierin een bottleneck kan vormen. Het koppelen, ontsluiten, opschonen en verrijken van data is 70 tot 80% van het werk. Hoop na deze opleiding weer tot nieuwe inzichten te komen.
